Earlier this year it was reported that Apple would be replacing the 12MP camera on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus with a new 48MP camera, which is said to be the same sensor as the current iPhone 14 Pro (review ). According to initial reports, this component of all things is now causing delays in the release date of the standard iPhone 15.
- The 48MP sensor of the upcoming Apple iPhone 15 could delay the release.
- Said camera will offer lossless zoom for the vanilla iPhone models.
- It is anticipated that Apple will announce the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro in September 2023.
Analyst predicts later launch
Analyst Jeff Pu, from Haitong International Securities, one of the most renowned Apple analysts, confirms in a newsletter that Apple will install a triple “stacked CIS” (CMOS Image Sensor) with a resolution of 48 MP in the iPhone 15 (Plus). However, he also added that the latest developments in the supply chain indicate that the component is causing some bottlenecks in the production targets, which in turn could lead to a delay in the Apple iPhone 15 launch.
However, the analyst believes that there are still no solid signs that Apple will change its usual timeline for launching the next generation of iPhones. That means the Cupertino-based company still expects to announce and release the Apple iPhone 15 alongside the iPhone 15 Pro models in September, although the exact dates aren’t yet known.
If the schedule ever changes, expect the date to be pushed back a few weeks. For comparison, the Apple iPhone 14 Plus hit shelves three weeks later than the smaller iPhone 14, which we also tested extensively.
The iPhone 15’s 48 MP camera is said to deliver brighter and sharper photos. In addition, thanks to the larger number of pixels, the camera could enable a lossless 2x zoom for both cameras. However, the Pro models are likely to get a boosted 3x lossless zoom, while the Pro Max variant could probably benefit from a periscope camera.
In addition to the cameras, the iPhone 15 is said to be equipped with the A16 Bionic processor and have a “Dynamic Island” at the top of the display and a USB Type-C port. The more efficient and faster A17 Bionic, the Titanium housing, the ProMotion display and 8 GB of memory are planned exclusively for the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
