Ever since the Galaxy Z Flip came out, Samsung has never enabled DeX (Desktop eXperience) on the Android foldable smartphone. The South Korean company could do the same in the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5, which could also be Samsung’s first folding foldable to support the mobile workspace service.
- It is suspected that Samsung will equip the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with DeX support.
- That could result in the Galaxy Z Flip 5 shipping directly from the factory with this feature.
- It is unknown if DeX will also be rolled out for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and older models.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 with DeX support?
Samsung’s DeX is a tool that can be used to connect compatible Galaxy smartphones and tablets to monitors or HDMI-capable TV sets. It supports inputs via the hardware keyboard and mouse and thus offers a desktop or PC-like interface, which, however, is operated with Android. At the same time, it is possible to connect smartphones to laptops to use DeX on Windows OS.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and DeX compatibility
The report comes from the online medium “SamMobile“, which cites unnamed sources for this information. According to this, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 with DeX function will be launched as soon as it is launched together with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 later this year. This would make it the first foldable clamshell design compatible with this particular service.
It is unclear whether the function will also be available for older flip models such as the Galaxy Z Flip 4 (test), since it has the same chipset as the Galaxy Z Fold 4, on which DeX is already known to run. If Samsung has any intention of extending DeX to previous generations, it would likely do so through OTA (over the air) updates to those devices.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 in late July – just over a week earlier than Unpacked Event 2022. The planned schedule would also push the release date of the foldable phones to an earlier date .
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is rumored to have a larger cover display in a “tab folder layout”. A new teardrop-shaped hinge could also ensure that the foldable opens completely flat and with a less noticeable crease. This new mechanical component could bring potential benefits to the fully foldable Galaxy Z Fold 5 as well. Both foldable phones are expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
